Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE) is a minimally invasive treatment to reduce the enlarged prostate in men. It is used to treat Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia. It is done by embolizing the arteries which supply blood to the enlarged prostate, thus reducing its size and relieving urinary flow problems
Minimally Invasive– PAE is a minimally invasive procedure.It does not require major surgery
Non-Surgical– Unlike traditional surgical treatments such as TURP, TUNA etc., PAE does not involve cutting or removal of tissue from the prostate gland

Patient Preparation : Patients are typically asked to fast for a few hours before the procedure.
Anaesthesia:Local anaesthesia is administered to numb the area near the groin.
Catheter Placement :A catheter (a thin, flexible tube) is inserted into a artery in the groin or wrist.
Artery Mapping : Contrast dye is injected through the catheter and X-ray imaging is used to visualize thevessels that supply blood to the prostate
Identifying Prostate Arteries :The interventional radiologist identifies the arteries that supply blood to the prostate.
Embolization : Tiny embolic agents are injected through the catheter into the prostate arteries These particles reduce the blood flow to the prostate leading to its shrinkage.
Monitoring :Continuous X-ray monitoring is done ensures that the embolic agents are correctly placed and effectively block the targeted arteries.
Recovery: Patients are monitored in a recovery area for a few hours to ensure stability. Most patients can go home on the same day or the following day.
Relief from BPH Symptoms: Over a short period of time, the reduced blood flow to the prostate leads to symptom relief in patients.
